Q. I am worried about Greek life stereotypes.
Sororities defy the stereotypes often associated with them, offering a multifaceted experience beyond common misconceptions. Alpha Xi Delta is committed to providing opportunities that allow each member to realize her potential through leadership development, philanthropic involvement, educational workshops, and relationship building. Greek organizations do hold social events, but most of these do not involve alcohol. These events include Parents Weekend, Sisterhood activities, community service opportunities, and chapter retreats. Alpha Xi Delta also offers platforms for professional networking, mentorship, and career development.
Q. What is hazing and does Alpha Xi Delta haze?
Hazing is when any person or group inflicts or intends to inflict physical or mental harm to another individual. Alpha Xi Delta Fraternity, as well as most universities, has zero tolerance for hazing. Chapters found guilty of hazing may lose University recognition and their members may face possible legal ramifications.
Q. Why should I join a sorority?
Joining a sorority like Alpha Xi Delta gives you the chance to be part of something bigger than yourself. You’ll find a community of genuine, supportive women who will cheer you on, challenge you, and become lifelong friends. From leadership opportunities and academic support to philanthropy, social events, and personal growth, sorority life helps you make the most of your college experience. It’s not just about four years—it’s about building confidence, finding your purpose, and making memories that last a lifetime.
Q. How does Alpha Xi Delta support academics?
Alpha Xi Delta has resources available to help your daughter academically. Greek membership offers scholarship programs that may include study partners, study hours, and time management and study skill workshops. Students can also access the network of chapter members who already know how to use campus resources like the library, study skills center, computer labs and academic advisors. Nothing, however, can take the place of a disciplined and academically-focused student to ensure success in college.
Q. Can you explain some of Alpha Xi Delta's events?
We host a variety of different exciting events throughout the school year, such as philanthropy events, mixers, sisterhoods, formal and informal, and so much more! Our local chapter hosts an event called "Xingo" every spring to support our local philanthropy, Youth in Need. It is a day filled of bingo, prizes, and fun for the whole family! Sisterhoods are hosted twice per month and are meant to serve as hangouts for our sisters. Oftentimes, these events involve painting, crafts, yoga, Bachelor-watching, or volunteering! Mixers are collaborative events hosted with SIUE's local fraternities on campus. They are held throughout the year and usually include fun activities such as bowling, mini-golf, sand volleyball, hiking, or volunteer work. While formal is hosted in the spring and informal is hosted in the fall, they are both filled with a night full of dancing and dinner!
